Welcome to ME Awareness Month May 2019!

A bit about us…

Let’s Do It for ME is a patient-driven campaign supporting the work of the charity Invest in ME Research and helping to raise funds for the biomedical research of their UK Centre of Excellence for ME initiative.

We want tests to enable accurate diagnosis and effective medical treatments established for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).

ME is a chronic disease involving muscle, brain, spinal cord, and dysfunction of immune, gastro-intestinal, endocrine, and cardiac systems. For more about ME see IiMER Awareness Leaflet and FAQs about ME.

Our crowdfunding enabled the Centre of Excellence biomedical research projects to commence in 2013 and the ongoing efforts were noted by MPs in recent Parliamentary debates on ME treatment and research.

Let’s Do It for ME awareness and fundraising is fully inclusive of age and illness severity, from the most severely ill supported by carers, to fit and healthy friends and family, our wonderful willing wellies!

We’ve had sponsored silences, screen-free weekends, readathons, sleepathons, through to some pretty extreme challenges, such as Mike Shepherd’s North Pole Marathon. You name it, Invest in ME Research supporters have probably done it!

We are severely ill ourselves but aim to update throughout May 2019 so please contact us with anything you’d like added or highlighted.

Special dates for May include renowned international Invest in ME Research Conference Week including Thinking the Future for Early Career Researchers 28th; Biomedical Researchers Colloquium 29-30th; ME Conference 31st; and Janet Smart’s Black Dress Day 31st May.

Until 17th May you can nominate Invest in ME Research for a Movement for Good donation of £1,000.

Please email Invest in ME Research directly at info@investinme.org for help with other awareness and fundraising aids, such as the charity’s T-shirts, wristbands, info materials, collection boxes etc.

To support our awareness you can also buy a range of products, such as our famous bear, with the Let’s Do It for ME and other logos and slogans from our online shops with 100% seller profit paid directly to Invest in ME Research. Spreadshirt’s offering free delivery til 7th May.

You can also buy the new book of poems 31 Days in May by The French Femme or simply share the poems she posts each day of the month.

The £1 Challenge for Invest in ME Research

We’ve set a new text donations fundraising challenge ending 31st March 2019.

This is the date that all JustTextGiving codes will be deactivated as JustGiving is ending its partnership with Vodafone.

The challenge is for as many people as possible to donate just £1 to Invest in ME Research adding up to a lot of money for the charity’s Biomedical Research Fund to establish medical tests and treatments for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

We’re using the JustTextGiving code APFR99 for this challenge.

This text code is linked to our One Day – One Pound JustGiving page.

The text option is UK only but anyone may donate via the JustGiving website from a minimum of £2 (to £100,000!): justgiving.com/fundraising/onedayonepound

The total raised on the JustGiving page is currently over £7,000 (including text donations) so we’ve set an ambitious target of £10,000 to be reached by the time JustGiving deactivates the text codes on 31st March.

Let’s see if we can do it for ME!

Please share widely as every £1 brings us closer to a cure.

If you’re on Facebook we’ve created event pages for 1st February and 1st March but donations are welcome on any day until the end of March for this fundraiser.

With best wishes and many thanks to everyone supporting our fundraising for the
Invest in ME Research Christmas / New Year Funding Appeal.

As the charity explains on Day 24 of their Advent Calendar for ME the main objective of the appeal is to raise funds for another PhD studentship and further the development of A Centre of Excellence for ME.

Work for Good: Matching Donations until Christmas!

Offer for businesses donating for the first time through Work for Good.
 

 

Invest in ME Research is a charity member of Work for Good, a social enterprise created to make it easy for businesses to incorporate philanthropy into their day to day work and to donate to charities through this platform.

A very generous donor (who wishes to remain anonymous) has pledged to double donations via Work for Good from now until Christmas.

The match donor will double a maximum of £1,000 per business, first come first served, whilst funds remain for any business making donations through the Work for Good platform for the first time.

“This gives you and your business a great opportunity to make your first donation(s) to the causes you care about through Work for Good. By doing so, your money will go further since we’ll match what you give. How’s that for an early Christmas present?!” More here.

Work for Good is the brainchild of Rupert Pick, who was inspired to give back to the amazing hospital staff who care for his daughter Ottie. Ottie was born 10 weeks premature, weighing less than 3lbs and with two rare genetic conditions that affect both her bones and her heart. When Rupert decided to donate the fees from his next workshop to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, it made him wonder about all the wonderful things that could happen if only more businesses chose to give through their work. Barnaby’s Birthday Fundraiser for Invest in ME Research

That excellent Eaton-Jones fellow is celebrating his birthday by fundraising for Invest in ME Research. Barnaby wrote,

“On Saturday, I turn 45. Every year is a struggle for most people with health issues but this is a charity about the most underfunded and maligned of diseases that affects so many people that it *should* be up there with the more ‘known’ ones. I’ve suffered with it for over 25 years and I have fought for better awareness and understanding. Of all the many M.E. charities, this one – for me – seems to be doing the most to get to the root of this disease and work out a way to somehow give all level of sufferers hope for the future. If you can spare the minimum donation of £4, I’d be most grateful. But, I also understand if you can’t in these times of austerity and uncertainty. Thanks for reading and, if you’re able to, thank you for supporting.”

There’s also some exciting news. It has been Barnaby’s lifelong dream to have something broadcast on BBC Radio and it will happen! ‘I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again….
