“We want to raise money for IiME because we have relatives who’s lives have been effected by M.E. Some have been wheelchair bound which have not only affected their lives, but family members lives too. Biomedical research is desperately needed to inform accurate testing and treatment. Cancer research gets around £1,200 every week, comparing to invest in M.E that’s what they get per year.

We would be so grateful if you donated to our fundraising event.

P.S. We may need some new feet after this!

That’s why they’re doing a 25 mile walk! Big thanks from IiME!

Team 100 are running the Great south run for IiMER

Will Martin is organising for a team of 100 runners, dubbed team 100, to run one of the biggest 10 mile marathons in the U.K. on October 22nd. The Great South run is based in Southsea, Portsmouth every year and is expected to attract more than 20,000 participants this coming October

Will Martin has already run the marathon three times before. He was inspired to create team 100 after watching the sufferings of his friend and ME sufferer Ali Head (see video).

Will says of the run “Going on past experiences of taking part, I know how great the crowds are with people calling your name. It is fantastic to be running through Southsea and the city and I cannot wait.”

The idea of team 100 is for 100 runners to participate in the run, each raising £100 each and hopefully plenty of awareness!

A few suggestions and events for Give it UPtober

A few suggestions and events to inspire us for Give it UPtober;

Julia Blake is giving up Acohol www.justgiving.com/fundraising/julia-blake3

Julia smith and Nick Amor are giving up magnums www.justgiving.com/fundraising/givinupmagnums

It could be everything and anything including;

  • Acohol
  • Your favourite sweet, biscuit, cake, ice cream or other favourite snack
  • Chocolate
  • Social media
  • Public transport pass
  • Television
  • Caffeine
  • Radio

For the last six years, until recently, I’ve been unable to sit up or get out of bed, eat and drink, see friends and family, tolerate any light or sound which means no computer or television. Just consider how much people with ME miss out on and then see if there’s one tiny thing you could give up, just for a month, to hopefully eventually lead to sufferers being able to gain more!

My brother is even talking about giving up beer!

Lynn Gilderdale’s 40th Birthday

By Becca Hams

A donation page to celebrate what would have been
Lynn Gilderdale’s 40th Birthday on 20th September 2017. https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/lynngilderdale40

On 20th September of this year it would have been my very courageous friend’s 40th Birthday.

Sadly she is no longer here to celebrate this special birthday with us. Lynn (aka Jessie) took her life aged 31 in 2008 after enduring endless suffering from very severe ME since the age of 14. It broke my heart, and many others, the day she died. I think of her all of the time, everything that I achieve whilst being ill however little it is, I always keep her in my thoughts and do it for her too.

To celebrate what would have been her 40th Birthday I asked her Mum, who was Lynn’s selfless, dedicated full time carer, if she would mind people donating towards a charity that was close to Jessie’s heart in celebration of her first ‘big birthday’ since she passed away.

I’ve set up this donation page where money will go to the charity Invest in ME in Jessie’s memory, however big or small, I know it’s something she would’ve been thrilled about as raising money and especially awareness was always something she was passionate about. I hope we can raise some funds and I will also be hoping to make it down to her memorial garden in East Sussex to lay some flowers for her too. Thanks for reading.

£200k target hit for IiMER Gut Microbiota Fund!

You’ve done it again!

We are pleased to announce that another target for our crowdfunding campaign for a strategy of biomedical research into ME has been reached.

This update to our gut microbiota and related projects fund being performed at the UK Centre of Excellence for ME hub in Norwich Research Park brings the total raised so far for projects there to £200,000.

The research found, funded and facilitated by Invest in ME Research is the result of dedicated, generous and determined supporters who have not just given money but, also huge amounts of time and effort toward helping us change the direction of research into ME in UK and Europe.

The latest target has allowed us to fund two PhD studentships currently undertaking research at the Centre of Excellence hub in Norwich Research Park and allowed us to decide to commit to the future funding of another PhD at the Centre.

Please click here for the full update by Invest in ME Research giving details of the latest study in the biomedical research programme and other projects related to the UK Centre of Excellence for ME, and a message to you from the charity’s Chairman Kathleen McCall: http://www.investinme.org/ce-news-1709-04.shtml

We supporters at Let’s Do It for ME would like to thank the Trustees and Scientific Advisory Board of Invest in ME Research for their vision and dedication, and everyone working with them to establish diagnostic tests and medical treatment options for some 250,000 people with ME in UK and millions around the world.

Our thanks to each and every individual, family, group, team, organisation or company contributing to this vital research and supporting by whatever means.

Let’s keep doing it for ME!
